The Sabres are committed to winning. They are getting rid of the dead weight and that is why they are winning now.

Garth... i rarely read your blogs i gave the 3 sentence one a read. I wonder if you used your jump to conclusions mat while writing this.

He said "Its nice coming into a group that is committed to winning". you jumped to the fact that he meant the ownership on down. i think that is not a responsible leap. Terry wants to win and i dont think there is a question about that. However the players on the ice (including pommer when he was here) were not.. they went out there and put on a good enough show to get their paychecks and went home.

Does all of management commited to winning, i question Darcy. He was under Tommy G for so long that he might still be in the mind set of making money is all we need to do.

But the worst part about that statement to me was that he didn't seem to give a crap about winning when he was here and now he is all of the sudden better than Buffalo. His crappy play was noncommited to winning.

I think that statement can be understood as not having any criticism of Buffalo.

Essentially the implicit meaning can be understood as meaning nothing more than recognizing that he came from a team that was not winning to a team that was having success. I am entirely confident that Pomenville had no intention of disrespecting the Sabre organization or its ownership.

i know there was a big arguement about it yesterday... but does anyone have an "official" word on whether Wedel can play in Roch next season?

considering he was one of the biggest offenders of the "being commited to winning" offense i think i agree with what you are trying to say

Yeah but how else would Garth gather hits without his poor analysis of a quote.

Pommer not a captain on a different team is better than Pommer as captain on this team.

pommer just isn't a captain... especially on such a weak team (skill wise) like buffalo has.

Making mountains out of mole hills. Pominville was one of the 3 (Miller, Vanek) that wanted to stay. Just glad they sent him to a decent team.

I wouldn't read too much into it. I think it was established that Pommer was not the long-term capitan of this team. The Sabres had to maximize the value for him - which they did. Pommer is a great top 6 forward in a non-capitan role. Clear and simple. He had the opportunity to lead the Sabres which he didn't.

The Wild are not going anywhere in the playoff - so how is that a commitment to winning.

He was Lindy's boy. That's how he got the 'C' plain and simple. No other coach would EVER have done that.

I like Pommer but he appeared to have the passion/fire of an altar boy.

Send Grigs to Rochester. No point in having him back in Buffalo.

I doubt any one of them would want to stay if it meant going through a long term rebuild.

Is a team not a direct reflection of its head coach and captain?

- garth

I have been saying that on here for a long time. Yes, it is, and that is why this team is/was so soft. With Rolston at the helm, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

He has to be able to. It's been made clear that rules involving CHL state that players moving to the NHL mid-season cannot be sent down to the AHL if they play at all in the NHL that season.

He should be fine to go back down to Rochester next season but for now he' a Sabre.

I really do hope Darcy has been having chats with Roy about the coaching job. We need a coach like him.

Garth, any word on other former Sabres? How about some write-ups on Brad May or Rob Ray? What's Gilbert Perrault up to? Or Matthew Barnaby and Hasek?

Read some good ones, actually. Carter brought it back to South NJ. But I'm not sure what that has to do with Garth's write-ups of former players.
